Hi
Me and my four fun friends are planning a few days on Utila in May.
So I am very grateful for any ideas on what to do, where to stay and so forth.
And of course what to miss and not spend time on doing.
Thanks so much for your input and help.

Check out aboututila.com - lots of info and a great lodging page. We've stayed at Freddy's and the Lighthouse, both by the bridge leading to the old airport. We love the location because it's a bit quieter than right in town but very close to our very favorite restaurant, RJ's, and the great snorkeling and flyfishing out past the old airport. I had a great experience diving with Alton's last summer which is just 2 or 3 doors down from the bridge.
In 2006 we paid $16/double/night for a decent apartment room at Freddy's which included tv, fan, and a kitchen and bath shared with the other bedroom in the apartment. The Lighthouse is gorgeous - spotlessly clean, small kitchen, ac and tv, wrap around deck over the water; we paid about $300/double/week last summer. We really like having a kitchen and shopping at the local markets (try to find out which days the produce boat comes as the best stuff disappears fast) and bakeries for most of our meals. Also love the ice cream - mmmm mango.
Lots of photos below - hope you enjoy Utila as much as we have!

Ah...Utila...be prepared for a very relaxing vacation!
Let's begin with food...don't miss out on Thompson's Bakery...go in the morning and get a fresh cinnamon rolls -- they are wonderful! And, make sure you try a baleada. There's a great little place that sells baleadas...as you get off the ferry, take a right at the intersection...walk past a couple of storefronts...it's on the right...couple of table/chairs in front...they are the best! Munchies restaurant is getting a new chef...and he's supposed to be excellent.
If you're going diving, find a dive shop that has full wet suit (vs. farmer john's)...the water gets pretty cold during the dive.
I was only there for one night...so I splurged on the hotel...stayed at the Jade Seahorse. It was great! A truly unique place...it felt safe and it was very comfortable. Even if you don't stay here, stop in to take a look at the grounds.
Have a great time!
