Hi Im thinking of traveling to utila next week, I would love some recommendations on places to stay that are friendly and easy to meet other travellers and what is the weather like there at the moment and for the next couple of weeks?...is it rainy season

The dive shops are likely the best place to meet other travelers; most offer accommodation with dive packages. You can search for dive shops and lodging options using aboututila.com. Happy trails!
I stayed at Alton's last January, and was well pleased - especially for the social aspect. I cruised around the harbour a lot, by land and sea, and checked out a lot of other places. Nothing came close. I really liked hanging at the pier at sundown, drinking beer and listening to musicians. There's a conch corral, too: a captive breeding facility within the compound. Rob, the boss, met me at the pier and set me up for the night after a wretched catamaran crossing from Roatan. Even fetched me a pitcher of water.
The weather here on Utila is nice at the moment, it's hot and sunny. We've had a couple of rain showers but that's it. It will start to rain proper in October sometime.
Depending on your budget, and depending on if you are diving or not, you can find cheap clean lodging at the Bavaria Inn or Paradise Hotel for about $5 a night or Ruby's Inn which is very nice and on the water for $25 a night.
Usually you will only be able to stay at dive shops if you are diving with them, although low season allows them to make exceptions. Above all, my advice is to make sure you look around as there is so much to choose from and places change from year to year. Utila is so small that it doesn't really matter where you stay as you will always be close to a crowd.
Happy travels.
