I live in Utila and just wanted to let everybody know that it's absolutely no problem to travel to Honduras. Everything is fine on the main land and the Roberto Micheletti, the new president and Mel Zelaya reached an agreement which the government and supreme court will have to approve. This will happen within the next few days hopefully. On November 29 elections will be held and after that everything will be back to normal again.
We do need tourists, not only in Utila but in the whole country. Besides the economic crisis the political situation in Honduras did not help at all to get people to come here. Lets see what happens.
Just wanting to let everybody know that traveling is safe in Honduras and we are waiting for lots of people to visit our beautiful island Utila do diving and chilling! See you here soon hopefully!

Me and a friend are hoping to travel to Utila in February and hoping to capitalize on the lack of tourists with discounted scuba and/or discounted lodging rates. Do you think that is possible? Are people reducing rates to encourage travel there? We are basically researching a very affordable diving destination, and looking in Mexico, the Carribean and Central America as flights are most affordable to these destinations (we live in Kansas, USA). I have grand memories of my two weeks on Utila in December, 2005...but am wondering if prices have increased substantially since then...when I paid $7 a night for a dorm at Mango Inn and then about $3 a night for a place a bit up the road with access to a kitchen (don't recall the name at the moment).
