Hi everyone,

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to the region in November and we're wondering if we should be worried about traveling through Honduras--from El Salvador to Nicaragua. Our embassy has issued a warning to avoid non-essential travel. But then I see here people planning trips there. What's the scoop?

Here's the link to our embassy's blurb on Honduras:

If anyone could offer any more info or advice on the wisdom of our plan, I'd be much obliged!

Thanks so much for reading,

-jt

I dont advise anyone to worry for any reason. Embassy folk are milquetoasts and put out scary warnings as a matter of routine just so that they can say they told you so. Not to say there is no danger; just the regular garden-variety central america danger that a modicum of street-wisdom will usually deter.

You might want to avoid the larger cities like Tegus, La Cieba, and San Pedro Sula, but then that's what I suggested even before the current situation.

Just got back from Honduras. No problems related to political or social unrest. If your going to go I would suggest going before the elections. There is likely to be more unrest shortly following them.
