So I just purchased incredibly (under $100 from ATL) cheap tix to San Pedro Sula for late next month. I will have Friday night through Tuesday night there. What do you all recommend? I am an experienced traveler especially in latin america but this is my first time in honduras. Love beaches, nightlife, markets, etc.

My recommendation would be to get out of San Pedro Sula and head up to the Honduran coast for some great beaches. San Pedro Sula is an grimy industrial town with very little charm IMO

What time do you arrive in San Pedro Sula? That may determine if you can get out of San Pedro thqt evening. There is a hotel Villa Nuria near the airport- otherwise try bus to either La Ceiba or Tela.

I'd fly to Utila or Roatán unless you prefer the small town/ruins of Copán for this trip.

Hey, sorry, no good advice for you, just a big question - where did you find tix for $100??? I´m trying to fly back to the states from Central America, and am getting huge sticker shock. We´re in Nicaragua, but I´d drive to San Pedro Sula to get a ticket home for that cheap!! Thanks!!

With the amount of time you've got, I'd get out of San Pedro Sula, and go to Copan. No beaches, but it's an amazing place (this from someone who wasn't even planning to go there on her trip).

Yes the Copan area is beautiful. The ruins themselves are no big deal, but the town and surrounding countryside are great. For beaches, you can head to Tela. It is the subject of much criticism, but I really liked it. You can take a chicken bus or a long walk from the town to some completely deserted beaches. Highly recommended.

i second tela for the beach...funky town but watch out strolling the beaches alone..

...i haven't been there for many years but remember playing golf & was wondering if the course is still operational

...when i played there were only 7 holes left as 2 had succumbed to the jungle

It seems that much of the crime problem in Tela has been cleared up. I stopped in and visited the tourist police, and they didn't seem to think there was much reason for concern.
