Hello all,

I'm looking for somewhere nice but not too upscale to stay with my partner for most of a week in Roatan while we dive - ideally around $40-70/night as an upper limit. Any recommendations? It doesn't need to be somewhere that has diving available, since there seem to be lots of shops available.

Also - would it be recommendable to have reservations for the end of January? I've only been there in off season before, so am not sure how crowded I should expect it to be.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I liked the Sea Grape - it isn't really upscale, but the bungalos are nice - quiet, nice porch with hammocks. I don't know that it is that romantic though...depends what you are looking for. Also, if one of the bungalos/cottages are not available, then I would recommend against it. The hotel rooms are nice enough, but have no character and are definitely not romantic.

Posada Arco iris is very nice and at the low end of your budget. It has monkeys in the courtyeard, free kayaks and nice wood rooms with a fridge and wall decor. I had my parents stay there and it was perfect!!!!

If you could be a bit more specific.... do you want sea view... do you have to be on the beach..do you want to be close enough to night life or would you prefer something more out of the way.

Jan is still high season. :)

Perhaps I do not know what Romantic means. :)

If you don't need sea-view or beach front, Hidden Garden Cabins is a nice option 5-10 minute walk back from the beach. You have your own kitchen/bathroom in the cabin and there is a hammock on the porch

Las Rocas is in a great location, halfway between the mindless over-development and chaos of West End and the overpriced and cruise-ship-haunted mondo condo at West Bay. You can look from Las Rocas to West Bay, and walk or water-taxi down if there's no cruise ship in, you can walk farther but not overly far or water taxi to West End, or you can just be comfortable at Las Rocas.

We also liked Keifito's Plantation, but I understand it's having serious management issues now.

I stayed at Mariposa lodge, it was very pleasant. Set back 100m from the beach and very close to most diveshops are. My room had two huge beds, ceiling fans, kitchen in the room, a nice balcony looking on a garden.
