We use Lonely Planet to research our trips, so we're returning the favor by posting about our week in Roatan. First off, weather. The rainy season is late this year so we had 5 days of gorgeous, sunny weather. Not a cloud in the sky, but a fantastic breeze to keep temperatures pleasant. Second, the political situation. If you were to fly in and out of Roatan, you would have NO idea anything had happened in Tegus. And if, like us, you connect via the mainland especially through San Pedro Sula, you still wouldn't know anything was going on. We had zero problems whatsoever. Now for the shout-outs:

We stayed in West Bay at Infinity Bay. We absolutely loved our condo, complete with kitchen and flat screen TV. The infinity pool and esquisite beach front are everything the website makes them out to be. All in all, a full recommendation. If you're looking for an American resort however, you're going to get 100% of it. There's no restaurant yet and no big drive up lobby - but who cares. Its the newest in West Bay and at a great price.

We dove with Coconut Tree Divers and we wouldn't recommend anyone else!! Not only are they super safety conscious and incredibly nice, but they are also the best. Which is why they train the most Dive Masters, Instructors, etc. On all of our dives we were the only "tourists" and having 2 dive master trainees only provided more oversite and fun! Sharing a beer after an afternoon dive is fun too. A great, great shop with the same prices as every other dive shop. They're even so nice to provide a ride into town because one of the students lived near our hotel.

Eating: 2 favorites - The Beach House and The Lighthouse. The Beach House is right across from Coconut Tree and is only open for breakfast and lunch in low season. We enjoyed our meals overlooking Half Moon Bay and got exactly what we wanted. We told the chef we wanted to spend $10 pp and he made us 3 lobster tails, fish and shrimp for 2, and rice. Yum! The Lighthouse was even more fantastic. The tuna sashimi appetizer is heavenly and the thai seafood plate is unbelievable. Great prices and service.
Other great places include Magiano's Deli in West Bay (great sandwiches, cheeses, and meat). The Vintage Pearl near Bananarama was highly recommended. Usually they have 4 choices for their standard 3 course menu. The people were charming but it was a little out of our meal-budget range ($25-40 pp) but I also never can 3 courses - otherwise it sounds like a steal and is well-reknown as the best food on the island.
Overall we dove and sat on the beach - a fantastic honeymoon! We've already convinced our family to go down next spring. Enjoy!!
