Hey Guys,

I am traveling alone to Honduras & Guatemala at the end of September. I was thinking about visiting Roatan from October 1st for 3 nights but I hear the weather is pretty bad around then. Anyone have any insight into this and whether it is worth visiting Roatan at that time of the year? Also, what are some good budget accommodations there for a solo traveler? I hear Chillie's is good...?

Secondly, I am hoping to get from Roatan - Copan in one day (I dont really want to spend a night in Le Ceiba or San Pedro Sula). Has anyone attempted this/is it possible? Im guessing I need to take the first ferry to Le Ceiba then the Hedman bus to Copan but Im not sure if I can squeeze all this in one day.

Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Roatan in October, only mother nature can tell. it is the month when the storms usually hit, but there is usually a couple of days warning. i would have it mapped out with the option to cancel at the last minute. if the weather is good and want to spend the night in West End, Geoffrey's Tropical Hideaway has good rates for their cabins, about $20 and a new bunk room with bath for $15 a person and is set it a mini jungle that Rudy has created. if you want to explore the remote east end, Marble Hill Farms has a bunk room for $15 with a view of the north shore set up on a hill. deserted beaches in Camp Bay and the Mangrove Forest, just past Old Port Royal. West End is a good base to start off, then you can plan out the remaining days. a scooter is a good way to get around, even on the dirt road, just use more back break on dirt roads.

I don't know about the weather in October, but I recently made the trip from Roatan to Copan in one day without any trouble. We took the early ferry and a taxi to the little Hedman Alas terminal. We had plenty of time to buy tickets and eat some marginal bus station baleadas before the bus left. There was a pretty long stop over in San Pedro (long enough to see a world cup soccer game and then our connecting bus got us to Copan as the sun was going down (about 6:45). There was no shortage of cool little taxis into the town, which is a really cool town. There are hotels and restaurants for just about any budget.
An easy trip, especially considering how luxurious the Hedman Alas bus was.

Great. Thanks for all your help guys! I think I'll have a blast in Roatan no matter what the weather is like and by the sounds of things, getting from Roatan to Copan in one day is definitely doable.

Thanks again

I have to agree with Jimmy, no one can predict the weather but the days have been sunny with scatterd thunderstorms mostly at night, makes for comfortable sleeping. Do check out the east end of Roatan worth the trip, Marble Hill as well as Campbay Beach Adventure Lodge both have dorm type rooms, the lodge has beachfront semi private for 15.00 US a night and a restaurant on site.
