I was planning on taking a week long scuba trip to Belize, but after asking around I'm considering the Bay Islands. How is the night life on Roatan and Utila? I'm traveling alone so I'd like to meet up with people my age (30). I paln to dive and fish and just hang out on the beach. I'll be there late June-early July. Any help is appreciated.
I love Belize, too, but you'll find much cheaper diving and less rain on the Bay Islands that time of year. We split about 3 weeks between Utila and Roatán in 2006 and loved both, but there's more to do on Roatán besides dive than there is on Utila and better beaches. Others will have to advise about nightlife. I'm heading to Honduras again this summer for just over a month but I think we'll split our island time between Utila and Guanaja this time. Check the link below if you're interested. Have a great visit and tell us all about it.

my boyfriend and i spent the first two weeks of april on utila and had the time of our lives. i also heard that there is more to do on roatan, but things are also a bit more expensive. as for utila, there are plenty of places to go out at night and have fun. you'll find beers are about $1.50 (25 lempiras), mixed drinks about the same. bars always have specials on drinks, and treetanic serves shots for $1.00 - so partying won't be a problem. as for hanging out on the beach, you may be out of luck. the beaches on utila are limited and usually privately owned. however, just about every dive school and restaurant has a great dock to sit out on and enjoy the views. but - not having a beach also means no sandflies! utila was a ton of fun, cheap, and really safe. highly recommended. i'm sure you'll enjoy whichever island you end up on!
