Any recommendations for a fairly quiet place to stay for 5 nights in Roatan that's still walkably close to restaurants, etc.? Preferably a smaller hotel/guest house/B&B with some privacy. I'm a really light sleeper and don't want to be kept up all night by music or partiers coming from a bar nearby. Enough of that happens at home, so it would be nice to escape it while on vacation.

Budget is $100 max per night, less is better, but could be stretched if something is really worth the money. Mid-range is generally good -nothing too high-end or bottom of the barrel.

I've emailed Land's End, Cocolobo, and Posada Arco Iris - thoughts on any of these? This end of the West End looked like it should be quieter - am I right to think that?

I always like Half Moon Bay Cabins. They are nice and quiet at night and within easy walking distance to any place you might want to go on the West End. They are very affordable and there is a nice restaurant on the premises. There is no need to spend anywhere near $100/night on the West End. Seagrape Plantation and Posada Orquideas are nice too. The only thing I don't like about Arco Iris is that it can get loud there at night since they built Argentinian Grille and Sundowners. Otherwise, it's fine. Do you dive. The dive shops have packages with hotels. PM me if you need more info, Mike

you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows

We stayed at Posada Las Orquideas, which is owned by the same people as Arco Iris. We spent a week there last week, and were really happy with our choice. There are 3 floors, with 6 rooms on each floor. All the rooms face the water and have a large shaded balcony. The balconies aren't private (i.e., they're all joined), but many times we found ourselves to be the only ones out there. The rooms all have small kitchenettes, a double bed and a single bed. Very clean, with daily maid service. There were 2 fans in the room, with the option of A/C (extra charge), and windows on both sides of the room. With the 2 fans and the great cross breeze, we didn't need the A/C. The place is fairly new and the windows have good screens. They'd be a 3 - 5 minute walk to the Arco Iris, but much much quieter. The doors even closed quietly! No roosters, barking dogs, etc! (There were 2 little orange tabbies who occasionally meowed at us and that's about it.) We were there a week, so got a 10% reduction in the room rate. We paid a deposit on the room with Visa, but paid the remainder in cash when we got there, so they didn't charge the tax. Bottom line for 7 nights was just over $280, so price was excellent. I would definitely stay there again.

Yes, the half moon bay end of West End has less noise.

I stayed at Casa Calico, a short walk from the main intersection in WE, and it was nice

Are you set on West End? I stayed at Las Rocas in West Bay and it was very quiet and right in your budget (much less expensive than the other places in West Bay and even a lot of the places in West End). May be right up your alley. I really enjoyed it there and the nice beach is much closer. I was by myself and I think I paid about $70/night. They have prices on their website (they change depending on # of people in the room and the season). I found the food in West Bay to be about the same price as West End. And if you want to get to West End it's easy to take the water taxi (and kinda fun).

Hope this helps!

that end of west end is quiet and it's not a far walk to the heart of west end at all. I stayed at the land's end a couple of months ago but I would not recommend it. I think that for less money you could have a nicer experience at the seagrape which is right next door to land's end. I nearly changed hotels to the seagrape which has a really nice pool, is much more quiet and peaceful than land's end, better price....and cleaner. There isn't any real beach there though, just ironshore (another good reason to have a nice pool), so if you want a nice beach it's about a 5-10 minute walk into the town centre. After I left the west end I stayed in west bay for a few days. It's very quiet in west bay and it has one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen, despite the crowds when the cruise ships come in. Clear blue water and white sand....just gorgeous! Even if you don't stay in west bay you have to go and visit, it's just a quick water taxi ride away from the west end.

Seagrape is another good option- I snorkeled with them everyday that I was on Roatan, and everyone staying there had wonderful things to say.

Las Orquideas is definitely way quieter than Arco Iris.
