Hello! My girlfriend and I are going to Tela, Honduras for a couple of days to soak up some sun and relax (end of April) and were wondering what sort of night time entertainment there is. We're just looking for something along the lines of a palapa bar by the beach or a bar/restaurant with a fun atmosphere to get a drink and talk with fellow traveler's or practice our awful Spanish. I've been to Nicaragua before in the Grenada area and loved how there were random palapa bars just off the highway tucked into squares cut out of the sugar cane/banana fields. Are the same sorts of places available in Honduras?

Thanks for any advice!

Kathryn

there are plenty of small cheap bars to hang out in in tela lots along the beach area too.

There are a lot of cheap places to drink in Tela but the beach is pretty disgusting in town. It's really dirty and it's not the type of beach where you want to lay around soaking up the sun. We spent two days there and didn't see any travellers hanging out on the beach and there were just a handful in the bars close to the river

You might have more luck in Tournabe. It's a Garifuna village about a 20 minute cab ride from Tela and has a Caribbean vibe to it. Several palapa bars on the beach and it's much cleaner. It might be a challenge to catch a ride back to Tela...we waited about an hour before we were able to get one back. LP says there's regular bus service, but it wasn't running the day we went.
