Does anyone know if it is possible to go from Nicaragua (Los Manos) to Copan, Honduras in one day? If not, any advice on where to stop along the way (and additional info..lodging, etc) would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

I am pretty sure you have to go into San Pedro Sula (10-12-hours) and then on to Copan (3 hours). So I think not in one day but not sure how to break it up.

Yes, I have done it many, many times but in my own car. Some friends went Managua/SPS and had an hour to make the SPS/Ruinas bus. I don't know if they made it but it is possible.

Hey,

If you want to bus this... it's going to be very very difficult. First there's the thing that you take 3 busses to Tegucigalpa. There ARE (or were) directs, but they are not in the morning. And you will need... the morning. You just loose a lot of time going to El Paraiso, then taking a bus from there to Danli (2 times ridiculous distances) and then another one to Tegucigalpa.

From Teguc you will have to get on a bus towards SPS. So... that means that you will have to change bus terminals. As a matter of fact the Danli terminal is quite far from the SPS terminals (which are all in Comayaguela).

From SPS there are direct busses towards Copan, but as far as I know the last direct bus is around 3 in the afternoon. I would be very surprised if you would make it from las manos to SPS before 3. It's MAYBE possible. If you're lucky :-). I remember once that I wanted to make it to Copan, so I took a bus towards Santa Rosa. At the turnoff for Copan I got out and then I tried to find a taxi. This took quite a while, because nobody wanted to go, were full or were charging horribly ridiculous amounts. In the end I found one that charged an 'acceptable' amount (which was still very expensive). This all said, it would be better to catch that last direct bus from SPS!

If you're too late, leave SPS and come to Tela, tropical small city not far from SPS by the carribean (white sand beaches for free included)... Have a drink and a good meal in my bar/restaurant, sleep here for a night and leave the following morning to Copan... :-).

Good luck with the trip!

As of January this year, Tica Bus went through Esteli (they did have an agency there) and then the border at El Espino not Los Manos. You change buses in Teguc with a scheduled arrival in SPS at 5pm. The last Hedman Alas bus SPS/Ruinas leaves at 5:30pm. So if you leave from Esteli it is possible but not probable.
