Just returned home after 2 weeks in beautiful Honduras. We flew into San Pedro at night and stayed at Tamarindo Hostel. Walked to Baleadas Express for dinner which was good. We got a private room which was ok, nothing special. Woke up at false dawn to rooster and again at dawn. That was the only let down. Following morning tried to walk to Tela express terminal which was not to be found. So took cab to bus terminal and boarded bus to Tela not an express.
In Tela we checked out a room in Mango hotel that had a window that viewed a wall 6 inches away. Left there and found Hostel Heliconia which is brand new and very clean. Located at the corner of 6 av & 8 Calle Tel: 504-448-1223 hostelheliconia@yahoo.com Jorge' the caretaker was extremely helpful and friendly. The hostel was small with 4 rooms and 2 bathrooms one with hot shower. We had the large corner room with 2 double beds and 4 large windows. We were never hot as the ceiling fan kept us cool. We loved the place and Jorge' gave us a history lesson on Tela and Honduras which was priceless. I liked Tela as it is small and walkable. We ate fresh baleadas from the street and had excellent licuados at Tuty's every morning. We ate dinner at Luces del Norte one night which was good and another night we ate on the beach at La Costa which charged us 12% and 15% on our food and drinks. This was a first time we were taxed and it ended up being an extra 64 lps so ask before if tax is included in price shown on the menu at every restaurant. We visited Lancetilla gardens which was nice except the guide didn't speak english so we didnt get much out of he tour. After the brief tour we walked up the road deeper into Lancetilla along the river and into bamboo forests. I swam in the river and met some friendly soldiers who escorted us back to the main gate. I wish we had visited Parque National Jeanette Kawas but theres always next time.
We then headed to El Pino hoping to stay in the jungle at Natural View but it wasn't in the jungle so we left for Omega Lodge. What a beautiful place. We stayed in the tent which was nice. We got food poisoning and were layed up for a few days so we were unable to do any tours. We had to leave after three nights because it was booked up. We then walked to Jungle lodge and stayed there one night. Beautiful location but not so nice service nor room. They have fixed menu. Went for nice swim in river then unguided hike into Pico Bonito to small waterfall.
We then went to La Ceiba and spent one night there before catching the ferry [$51rt] to Roatan. La Ceiba wasn't that appealing to me. Cant remember the place we stayed but right on the ocean.
We stayed at Las Orquedeas after a recommendation from the person we shared a cab [$5 per person] from the ferry. We stayed on the first floor [$48 cash per night] for 5 nights and the last two nights on the third floor [$50?] with a nice view of the bay. Went snorkling in half moon bay from hmb cabins and west bay. Wow never been snorkling in Carribean what an experiance. Ate at beleadas place ++,cannibal cafe---,mavis & dixie +++ and a few others. Mavis was the best. Visited Carambola gardens by scooter [$25pd]. Left Roatan and stayed one night in Hotel Palace Inn [700lmp] before shopping and going home. Cant say I recommend Palace inn although no rooster woke us up.
Honduras is a beautiful country with very friendly and helpful people and would visit again. Hope this helps!

I miss breakfast at Mavis&Dixie's very much. What a great spot to eat. Eggs, bacon, toast and coffe $5, banana pancakes 2.50, and what a view. How was the beach at Tela?
