Thank you everyone for your responses! Again I am not taking medical advice here! Just wanted to hear of people's experiences!

Hello!
I am also doctor...I am not referring to your decision whether to take/not take antimalarial medication...
But only want to say that antimalarial medication for Honduras (if you want to take it) as well as for the major part of Central America (if taking) may not necessary be Malarone.
Since Plasmodiums (parasits that causes malaria) are not resistant to Chloroquine in Honduras, than Chloroquine may be another option; Chloroquine you take once per week while Malarone you should take every day.
I used many times Chloroquine when and had no side effects.
However, you can check this useful page: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/honduras.htm
Enjoy your trip!

Malaria does exist on Roatan. Medical record keeping in third world countries is very spotty though, so the stats are slanted Take the drugs as a prevention and you may have some mild side effects, Don't take the drugs and you could end up out of action for a week or two. To me its a no brainer.

Solohobo, So a Cruise Ship Passenger spending the day in Roatan should take the meds?

While the short answer is yes, Mosquitos are most active at dust Most people I know that have contracted malaria have also had greater exposure by sleeping in places wihout window screens or with doors open to improve the breeze.

My wife and I were in Roatan last April. On our doctor's advice, we took Chloroquine and had no side effects at all.
