Hi!

I'm planning a trip to Honurdas Nov. 19th - Dec. 1. We are planning to fly into San Pedro, check out Copan for a day or two, then head back to the coast and visit some beaches (Parque Nacional Jeanette Kawas) and/or hike in Pico Bonito, then head over to the bay islands for some relaxation. I was hoping to get some feedback on the following items:

  1. Is this route doable in the time alloted (arriving mid-day Nov. 19th and departing mid-day Dec. 1), or am I trying to jam too much into too little time?

  2. I realize this is the end of hurricane season - is it still likely I'll get sun for the beach, or am I more likely to end up with a lot of rain?

  3. Are the beaches on the North Coast worth visiting, or should I focus on spending more time in the Bay Islands?

  4. I realize that we'd be visiting shortly after the election. From the sound of Thorn Tree members, I get the vibe that the area we'd be travelling in seems fairly removed from any major concerns currently in the capital. Would I be naive to think that for the most part, travel and security would be fine (obviously with taking into consideration normal precautions when travelling)? I really want to make this trip, but I also don't want to be naive to the political situation.

Any feedback that you have would really be greatly appreciated! (or any other must-dos!)

Many thanks!

  1. You can fit a lot in. I recommend some the places I've visited and loved, e stops: Copan, Omega Lodge outside of La Ceiba for jungle time, and either Utila or Roatan (nicer beaches, more to do) for blue water time. More than that would be pushing it. Lots of photos with blogs and travelogues at the below.

  2. I've only visited during the summer months which is technically hurricane season but pre-rainy season - days of rain would be a luck-of-the-draw thing that time of year, I think.

  3. I'd focus on the islands.

  4. No one can predict that for you, but I'd go for it, knowing that if a last minute assessment makes it seem impractical or unsafe you would need to do a quick shift to someplace else (Guatemala and Belize are both awesome, too).
