Hey everyone,

I was just checking the Canadian government travel report for Honduras and they reported heavy flooding all along the north coast. I read that the rainy season just begins in June in Hondruas and was wondering if:

  1. The flooding is having a large impact on the traveling that is possible
  2. The situation will be impossible come June?

I land in Cancun on May 9th and will travel overland south down the Quintana Roo coast, cross in Belize and work my way south eventually taking the ferry from Placencia into Honduras, east to La Ceiba and Utila and fly out of San Pedro Sula on June 10th.

Thanks for the info!!!

Although there's technically some risk of hurricanes in June, the rainy season doesn't typically start around the Bay Islands/La Ceiba untill in the fall. We've been in Honduras 3 or the last 4 summers (usually 4-5 weeks in July/August but once it was June) and have had great weather. I think you might have to keep your plans a bit flexible and follow the reports when it's closer - this far in advance no one will be able to predict.

If there is flooding in La Ceiba when you get ready to go there, you might look at taking the bus to San Pedro Sula from Puerto Cortes and flying out of the airport there directly to Utila. It is virtually impossible to predict the weather in this area that far in advance. As hopefulist states the hurricane season does not usually really impact that area until September but....
