I'm looking into flying into SAP on X-mas eve (2:40pm). I've read on the forum that it's pretty dead in terms of transport and restaurants/hotels on X-mas & 1 day before/after. Will buses or shuttles (even minimal service) be running so that I may get to La Ceiba region, or will I have to settle for a hotel in SPS?

Also if I can reach La Ceiba, how difficult will it be to find accommodation and/or transport to islands...without reservations?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hey..Your arriving pretty late in the day but I would say that Yes there should be some buses running but with less frequency and some bus companies will increase prices. If I remember though some end service earlier on Christmas Day.If you are willing to take local buses not just the tourist buses you have a better chance of getting what you need.
I would suggest though you either Go to the Bus Station and ask at the diffrent companies who has buses or just spend the night in SPS and leave early the next morning. If you really need to go on that day perhaps consider getting some sort of Shuttle service.

Thanks for the info. I don't mind taking local buses. I actually decided to push back my flight until the 26th, so hopefully I'll have more options then. I imagine those buses will likely be even more crowded than usual (if possible), but I'd like to spend night in La Ceiba so that I could take AM ferry to Utila. Any recommendations on hostel or budget hotel for 1 night in La Ceiba?

Thanks again.
