Wondering if anyone has taken this route. I have only one week and am flying into SPS and then taking the bus directly to Copan.
I'm a bit worried about the travel time involved so any knowledge would be most helpful!

Try a search that includes Copan and Tikal and read through the first 20 or 30 forum pages - this comes up a lot, including fairly recently. Too much for a week imo, but they're both beautiful sites.

I did this journey in two days a few years ago. Break your journey up in Rio Dulce, Guatemala, before continuing your journey to Flores the next morning.

Did Copán Ruinas to Río Dulce in a little under 6-hours last year. Here's specific info that will get you that far. I've also specifics for Río Dulce, which is an interesting little town, but I don't recommend killing time down the river in Livingston.

If you haven't already bought your ticket, try to fly in to SAP and fly out of Guatemala City.
