The Hedman Alas seems to be the best "non chicken" bus from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba. What is the ride like - is it painful, boring?

Am I better to fly - if so, what airline serves the 2 cities?

I took this bus two weeks ago.
Excellent. No problem.
Much more expensive than ckicken bus, but so different!

Hedman Buses are big and comfortable and they offer snacks and movies. Isleña, Sosa, and Atlantic used to fly that route but I haven't been to Honduras since 2008 so I'm not sure if they all survived the economic downturn. There are flights to the islands, too (mostly to Roatán but a few to Utila and Guanaja) if you're heading to the islands. Have a great trip and be sure to tell us all about it.

Easy, comfortable ride of about 3 hours, if I remember correctly.

Here's the link; looks like there's a 2:45 Hedman bus you could make if you travel carry-on only but you'll have to overnight in La Ceiba since you'll arrive too late for the 4 pm ferry (at least it's been 4 pm in the past).

We had a whole Hedman Alas bus from Tela to SPS to ourselves last February. Very lux. The bus originated in La Ceiba. The drive is on a narrow, rich plain between some jungly limestone crags and the coast, with lots of plantations. It would be pretty enough if every piece of paper and plastic used in Honduras since the Spanish Conquest weren't lying in windrows of disgusting garbage beside the road, and blowing around the landscape. However, if you really like looking at vultures, there are always several in sight.

I honestly don't understand what people have against the other buses--particularly people who haven't even tried them. I took Catisa, which cost a fraction of Hedman Alas and not a chicken in sight. Comfortable Mercedes bus, not crowded at all, made very few stops. Most buses I've taken in Latin America that were longer than an hour played movies, it's not some sort of high-class service. What are you imagining the ride to be like??

I also went straight from San Pedro Sula to Roatan. You need to leave San Pedro Sula by 11:30am to make it to the ferry.
