I am planning a trip to HONDURAS for 11 days. I arrive in SPS on June 7th for 1 night. The next morning I would like to head to the RUINS of COPAN. How do you LP'ers suggest I get there? The bus? rent a car? I do not have to money pinch, but I do want to get there quickly, how far is it also? After arriving in COPAN, will most likely stay the night and then head to La Ceiba..How should I get FROM Copan to LC, I will be staying at the PICO BONITO lodge for 3 nights.....leaving LC I will be taking the ferry from LC to ROATAN, where I will stay at the WEST BAY LODGE for 5 nights, please advise, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks, eddie.....

Here is the Bus Schedule. Both schedules are available. I would not rent a car- Honduras roads are not great and their driver's are crazy- but, others on this board may have a different feeling.

once you bus from SPS to copan ruinas, you can easily find cheap accommodations.). from copan ruinas town you can easily walk to to the ruins. it's very pleasant. but going from SPS to copan and then back to la cieba may not make much sense. take a gander at a map. that said, i love copan ruinas. a very charming and chill little town with decent tourist infrastructure. granted, i'd been on the CA road for several months. as little as curry was a blessing.
That's a lot of travel time for just one night in Copán imo - I really love the town, surrounding villages - lots to see and do besides the ruins (2 photo collections with travelogues and a blog below). I prefer to use Hedman Alas buses which you can do both ways between San Pedro Sula and Copán. From there you can continue on a bus or shuttle/taxi to the airport and fly to La Ceiba.
Have a great trip and be sure to tell us all about it!

Hedman Alas buses look cool and have air con but are a heap more expensive than the other operators - you get what you pay for! If you're on a budget go for one of the cheaper options.
It's worth staying a couple of nights and maybe going for a walk up some of the hills near town if that's your thing.
Sorry - forgot to say that I think all the buses leave from the main SPS bus terminal, you can walk around and shop around in the terminal to find a good bus/price, but be ready for hassle from all the bus touts trying to get you on their bus!

If you need a place to stay in SPS for one night, Casa El Meson B&B offers transfer service from the airport to the B&B (US$15/one-way trip) and can get you to the bus station the next day ($12) to get you on your way to Copan.
I have been on the bus from SPS to Lacebia, I so wished I had driven it. I wanted to stop for photos but on a bus.....The road is fine and if you are paying attention no worries about the drivers.
I agree with the people saying have a look at the map. If money is not an issue, could you fly from SPS to Copan and back then drive from SPS to LaCebia?
I know people who have stayed at the West Bay Lodge, everyone loves it.
Enjoy!
Not really possible to fly between SAP (the airport code for San Pedro Sula) and Copan unless you can come up with a private charter. Some guidebooks list an agency that supposedly provided flights but they haven't responded to email. I've read of Copan to Roatan options but nothing lately.
