HI All,

I am wanting to send some scarves and things out of Guatemala using the postal service. I have been using El Correo is the past as it is a cheaper option, however the postal service has shut down two times within the past 5 months. I was just wondering if anyone knew if there was an option for another postal service that has cheap shipping options? I have heard that Cropa has a slow shipping option because their rapid shipping which takes 3 days to the USA or CND usually costs an arm…

safety

Hello fellow travellers. My wife and I will be visiting some friends who are presently working/living in Guatemala city which we intend to stay with for a few days. But then we'd like to travel a bit. Our main concern is safety. How risky is it? We've travelled throughout Mexico several times so we have some experience. Your valued experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.

Jetta

I have a possible 9:30 AM walking tour of Antigua from Elizabeth Bell. Then a 1 PM massage by Deet. If I arrive by 9 I can drop off by bag at Posada La Merced and catch the tour. Es possible?

Planning to visit both in November. Just read on a guidebook that Tikal now has 3 ticket types? A sunrise (until 8am), a sunset (after 6pm), and a regular ticket. The guidebook stated that the 3pm arrival and getting the ticket to be validated for next day was no longer an option, and now you had to pay for two tickets if you wanted to do a sunrise or a sunset and also the regular hours. Is this true? (This is from a recently published guide, so recent/current infor appreciated). I'm mostly just…

We will be crossing the border from Mexico into Guatemala from Palenque to Flores. I am aware that there are two options, and the one we are interested in is the one that takes us via Bonampak and Yaxchilan -- so via the Frontera Corozal and into Bethel. LP suggests arranging it with one of the operators in Palenque that do an overnight in Lacanja and then crosses. Is that the best way on this route? Would it be less troublesome and not much more expensive than taking the colectivos/buses/boats…

My family of four arrive in Guatemala City at 10:30 pm December 27 and want to get to Copan for nights of December 28 and 29 and then return to Monterrico. With limited time and the holiday season, we wanted to pre-book transportation. I received a quote for a private van for $720. We've travelled extensively throughout South and Central America by private taxi (it is tight but we travel with carry-on only) as we prefer the flexibility bit I was surprised at the cost. Would prefer to use…

My husband and I are taking our 10 year old son to Guatemala for 2 weeks at the end of March. Super excited to see this amazing country. We have booked our flight and are now booking our hotels. So far or itinerary is looking roughly like this, with day trips from each spot:
Antigua 4 nights
Rio Dulce/Livingston 2 nights
Tikal 2 nights
Lake Atitlan 5 nights
I am wondering what the best way is to book transportation between our stops. I would be open to chicken bus, but not with our son....what is…

The Penn Museum recently put the archive of their magazine, Expedition, online. The archive is amazing to read through. Expedition occupies this wonderful niche combining National Geographic-style science reporting with the casual "updates from the field" feeling of a newsletter, and the articles are written by field directors, lab and project staff, and archivists at the museum.

There is a ton of wonderful material now available on the website, but I wanted to call special attention to the…

Hello,

We are going from Flores to Palenque.
Is there something that we need to pay for the authorities in the border ?

Hi, Im planning some trekking in the Nebaj area, looking at Nebaj to Todos os Santos trek and Xeo - cotzal trek. There are two possibilities for guides http://www.quetzaltrekkers.com/xela/ & http://www.nebaj.com/guiasixiles.html

Has anyone used Nebaj.com where you leave from Nebaj or Quetzaltrekkers where you leave from Xela ? Any preferences. quetzal trekkers looks to have non-mayan guides, i think Nebaj.com may have local guides. Any reviews? Thanks a lot for any feedback,
