I’m sure this comes up once a week in this forum, but language schools in Guatemala: I only have a week and want to take an immersion course, as well as, soak up as much of Guatemala as possible. What is my best option and what area?

Hello all,

I've been looking at the Ticabus website and see that they do a good through service in Central America. Do they have a good reputation for travel between Mexico and Guatemala? Have they been the victim or busjackings or are they able to avoid them somehow? Their buses look quite impressive so I assume they are a good company. Does anyone have experience of them?

Thanks

note that due to competetion rainbow travel in antigua lowered their price to airport if bot at their (only) office for cash $8.00 antigua - airport. doesn´t apply to charge or on-line. they offer different times than the comptetion so it may work out better for you, check it out.

they also offer transport to all the usual locations too.
office on NW corner of 7ave & 6 calle next to rainbow bookstore cafe.

frankly it was worth the $3.00 extra for piece of mind - knowing if for any reason the…

I detest the fear mongers who try to discourage tourism in Guatemala, and about a year ago I reported the few dangers that I knew of personally ( not just stories I had heard from others ). At that time I stated that if a tourist was not seeking drugs or consorting with gang members they had little to worry about, if they were reasonably careful.

Now I must add another category; gay males. Within the past few months I know of two gay men who have been murdered in the Antigua area. The first…

I've seen some posters with a track record in the 1000's for posting. I'm relatively new on the scene and when I'm away from my computer for a while I find myself really Jones-ing to check in here. If there could be wear and tear on the browser's reset button, I think I'd have to replace it quite frequently. I really love the sharing that goes on here and I love some of the controversy that pops up from time to time, too. I love dispelling myths and easing people's worries. I've had a few…

Hey guys, I'll cover a few questions I have in this post, so feel free to reply to any of them individually, or all! Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm about to go with my brother to Guatemala for a month. Here are the questions I have:

1) Are there easily accessible ATM machines in most parts? Do they accept most cards? (I have a normal flexi-card with the National Australia Bank. It has the PLUS sign on the back, meaning it is accepted internationally. I don't have a credit card.)

2) Me and…

I'll be in Guate in July. As I pack my clothes, I wonder if it is better to just bring a cheapo plastic poncho or my gore tex parka? The poncho would probably take less space in my pack. Are the rains short lived or does it pour non stop for hours at a time?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hello,

On our trip through Guatemala and Belize, we seem to have a bit of a time crunch. I was wondering if it was too rushed to spend two days/one night in Tikal/Flores? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just thought I'd let y'all know, you can fly from Miami / Ft. Lauderdale to Guatemal City for $39 each way on Spirit airlines. Looks like the deal ends today. Available dates are 7/6, 7/9, 7/12, 7/13, 7/15.

If only I could get off work...I'd hop a plane from Chicago to Ft. Lauderdale and be G-O-N-E.
