I'm heading to Guatemala in October and want to do some spanish classes (I already speak a little)
Basically I want to spend a few weeks in a place with as few tourists as possible so as to avoid the temptation to speak english all day! I also want a good teacher!
So far my guess is that either Todos Santos or Huehuetenango would be best. I'm kinda getting the impression Huehue is ugly etc but has a good spanish school and Todos Santos is beautiful but freezing cold and that the spanish schools…
Hello all,
I am planning my 5 week trip to Guatemala hopefully leaving sometime in the middle of October and returning sometime in NOvember. I am wondering how much money I will need, excluding my airfare. I will be staying at budget hotels/hostels and eating hopefully pretty cheaply. I would like to be able to do some guided tours etc, as well as be able to have a beer or two some nights. I'll be travelling all over the country during the 5 weeks, so I will also need money for transportation…
Don't know how I could have forgotten something so important, but when filling out the customs paperwork prior to landing in Guate City I noticed the form no longer says you can bring in a "hunting rifle & 400 rounds of ammunition"!
It now says, "a firearm & 800 rounds of ammunition"! If you get robbed, it's your fault.
Category 5, which is the worst, with currently 165 miles an hour sustained winds, the center projected to skirt coastal areas of Honduras Tuesday, just east of Livingston Wednesday, and across the Peten near Flores later Wednesday. If it stays on path it will lesson significantly over land as it crosses Belize and El Peten, but can still have damaging winds and rain. If you want to follow it check out www.nhc.noaa.gov.

Buen viaje! Buena suerte!
Hi...
I am returning to Antigua for a few more weeks of volunteering and would like to spend a couple of days my myself in La Barra de Santiago, El Salvador.. I wondered if anyone knows if a bus runs from Antigua there, and also if anyone knows of a surf school/shop in the town they can recommend...
oh.. along with reasonable accommodation...?
thanks in advance........
I am heading to guat to volunteer for around 2 months in march-april 08, and have found a couple of places and id love advice on the regions, or if anyone has worked with the companies. they are Casa Guatemala, in the jungles of Rio Dulce; Fundacion Las Manos - a refugee camp near panajachel at lago atitlan; and casa hogar de ninos jerusalem, just outside quetzaltenango.
gracias!
according to june revue p20 it's got-
-miniature horse ride for the kiddies at the mexican monument
-bikes for rent at el obelisco plaza
-open-air tent mass at 10:30am at plaza del periodista
-tai chi, aerobics class, etc...
this happens sunday only from 10am - 2pm when the ave de reformas & ave of the americas is closed to vehicles.
sounds like it has something for everyone and if some places are closed on sunday possibly a nice way to spend a sunday people watching or before your flight home sunday…
they heard you people - good for you! the only way to get things changed is to let them know [preferably in writing].
note new flight time [earlier in day in case of delays weather, etc...] also nice cushion for customs closing at lax 1am.
04:25pm GUATEMALA CITY LA AURORA INTL (GUA) 08:30pm LOS ANGELES INTL (LAX)
We arrive from Ireland to Cancun in the next week. We are planning to hit 'Playa del carmen' for a few days.
We have looked at Flight prices to Guatemala one way from $300 up??? We know it would take around 2 days if we were to do this trip via a Bus. Would anyone have any suggestions on a cheapish & quick way to get us to Guatemala City from the Cancun area.
Much appreciate your input on this.
hey good people [& happy labor day weekend to those in the u.s.]
i will be heading to antigua for a week in mid-sept. to recon some hotels/hostels in the two kites cities for 11/1.
i need to know -
1. which chicken buses do i get on at the antigua market back parking lot to get there.
exactly what are the 'cities' names & where do i get off at. [i've seen different spellings for them & know they're both 30 minutes in different directions from antigua in the same departmento which is the 2nd part…
