Has anyone taken the Rebuli bus from Guatemala City to Panajachel and how was it? I will have a large backpackers pack with me. Should I take it on the bus with me or is it safe to stash it? Thanks.

I would like to take a bus from Flores (Guatemala) via Belize to Chetumal (Mexico) in one day.
The LP reports of some possible issues. Did anyone do this trip and did you experience any issues?

I am visiting the Western Highlands of Guatemala and would like to do some volcanoe trekking. What would you recommend: Quetzaltenango, Lago de Atitlan or Antigua?
Another question: According to LP there is a three days trekking tour from Quetzaltenango to Lago de Atitlan - did anyone do this and what can yo usee there (landscape, maya villages, volcanoes)?

I'm getting into Guatemala City on Saturday morning (5:30) and I'm trying to figure out the best way to safely get to Panajachel. There's a shuttle that leaves the airport at 6:30 a.m. but I'm not sure if that gives me enough time to get through customs and get my checked bag. Any suggestions?

Does anyone have any info on what, if any innoculations are needed/suggested for Guatemala?

Will only be around Antigua/Lake Atitlan and not eating super adventurously.

I plan to take the shuttle from Antigua to San Cristobal on a Monday in November. Since there is a chance the shuttle won't go, I need a plan B. There is a Tica Bus that runs from Guatemala City to Tapachula, Mex. and a local OCC bus to SCC. Has anyone taken this route? What would be the best or fastest 1st Class bus route? I don't want to take a chicken bus. Thank you for any help.

I'd like to rent a car (midsize SUV) in Guatemala City for two weeks and travel around the country. Anybody knows, is it safe to rent it and to travel with it (two blond girls traveling) and also are there campgrounds we could park and sleep in the car overnight? or similar places like that (kind of resting areas). thanks.

I will be staying fairly close to tourist areas such as Antigua, Monterrico and Panajachel.

You guys have provided me lots of good, sound advice in my first message asking about retirement in Guatemala. I am now curious however about comments regarding "forget about opening a bank account" and references to Guatemalan banks not wanting to "bother". Can anyone tell me more? Social Security has told me that they WILL direct deposit to a Guatemalan bank and it seems to me any other means of getting $ sent is inefficient and ridiculously expensive.
