Hello

I a few weeks i'm arriving in Guatemala city (airport) in the evening (21.00 or 9 PM). I have to wait here for my connection flight early in the morning. (a sunday morning ) Is there anybody who knows that there is an hotel in the airport area. Or is it safe to wait in the airport during the night. I have no idea if it is a busy place at night or that the place is complete death. If i have to take an hotel further in town than i have to find a taxi at 4 o' clock in the morning.

Hello Folks,

I am planing my trip to Guatemala during X'mas with two friends. We wanna go to Tikal from Guatemala City (or Antigua). From what I searched on internet a way to get there is by redeye (or overnight) bus. I wonder how safe such bus is? and also how comfortable it is, can people lie down completely? --- don't want to be exhausted by the night trip if it is rough.

Other than the overnight bus, is there any other transportation to Tikal? i.e. can we rent a car with a driver and how…

hey Amigos

Myself and a friend had planned on travelling down through mexico into guatemala in the next two weeks. Due to recent political instability with the elections people-foreign press are giving some serious warnings of travelling due to the increased risk of violenece. Anyone there at the moment who can give us a heads up on this as we would love to go if it is just scare mongerring.
Thanks alot.

Hello Collected Wisdom,

I have been reading through many of the forum posts and replies. I still have some questions I cannot quite find the answers to.

Unfortunately, my husband and I will only have 8 days in Guatemala, 2 of which are arrival and departure days, respectively. So, the following are our plans. Can it be done? My questions are particularly about, how readily available the shuttle vans are from various starting points to various destination points. Also, approximate costs

1. Arrival…

Hello,

We're trying to decide if we can stay in Pana before heading to GUA for a 7:15 AM flight to Belize City. As far as I can tell it's not possible. I've read that the first shuttles from Antigua leave around 5am and take about 1 hour, so even that is cutting close.

How much time before the flight (international) do we need to arrive in the early am (on a Wednesday) and what are the chances of getting there from either Pana or Antigua?

Thanks very much for any advice.

I am flying from Guatemala City to Flores in eary January and would like to know what airlines fly that route and what the approximate fares might be. Also are any of the airlines much better or much worse than the others? Thanks for any help.

We stayed at Backpacker's Hostel and were sorely disappointed. Don't stay on a Wed. or Sat. if you plan on sleeping at all. Those nights the volunteers from the orphanage come down the river and the hostel bar plays dance music, not to mention the Guatemaltecans who come out to dance with the gringa volunteers. The party didn't stop until four in the morning and shortly after the roosters were crowing and the jake brakes on the overhead bridge were roaring. SLEEP? NOT A WINK!!! Just be warned…
