We are two women, 25 and 26, from Finland doing a 6 day and 5 night hike to El Mirador starting on December 29th. We are doing the hike in any case, but it would be really nice to have some other travel companions with us as well! We booked the trip via Martsam Travel. The hike starts from Flores early on December 29th and returns to Flores in the afternoon on January 3rd. After that we are going to Caye Caulker in Belize for a few days.

I am a bit hesitant and I'm wondering what others who have spent time there recently think. Would you feel safe there, travelling with 2 small children?

I am a solo female traveller and will be taking the Transport Del Sol bus from Guatemala to Nicaragua non-stop. The only issue is that it departs at 3am and:
1) I have no idea where I go to catch the bus (does anyone have the address?)
2) I'm a little nervous about standing at a bus stop alone at that time or even walking to catch it since its Guatemala city.

Hello :) I will be visiting Guatemala at the end of November for 2 weeks and so far my plan is to stay in Antigua before heading to Flores, Lanquin then Rio Dulce - but the travel arrangements are confusing me!
Is it possible to travel from Lanquin to Rio Dulce and if so, how long will the jouney take. I'm really hoping to visit Semuc Champey but it lools like it's easiest to travel to Rio Dulce from Flores. Thanks in advance for any info :)
I just finished updating my blog with 17 posts from my July/August 2014 stay in Guatemala. Aside from a few nights in Antigua at the start and a night near the airport in Guatemala City the night before flying home, I stayed the whole trip in San Pedro La Laguna on Lake Atitlán.

Hey everyone! I'll be on a pretty tight 9 day schedule in Guatemala, and I was wondering what the cheapest bus route was from Antigua to Tikal. I'm aware I'll probably have to stay in Flores for the night. I would like as much as possible to avoid Guatemala City, as well as taking any night buses.
My boyfriend and I will be spending the day at Tikal, and probably the night in a nearby city. Any recommendations on where is best to stay?
