Will be heading to Guatemala for 1 week in early January. As time is tight, I was thinking of sticking to Antigua and Atilán. I've read that one can catch a shuttle straight from the Guatemala City Airport to Antigua, but is there some direct transit via Panajachel or Atilán. I speak spanish, so public transit isn't an issue.
Is that manageable for 1 week? Also looking into active tours, so volcano hiking, ziplining, jungle treks, mayan ruins, etc are all welcomed. Any recommendations…
I'm heading to Guatemala for 2 weeks in Dec-Jan and I need help with my itinerary. Originally I wanted to go to Semuc Champey but seems like traveling times are too long. My tentative itinerary is as follows:
Day 1-3: Antigua
Day 4-7: Lake Atitlan
Day 8-10: Xela
Day 11-12: Flores
Day 13-14: Tikal
Day 15: Flight back home
The part of the itinerary I'm not too sure about is how to get from Xela to Flores. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm starting to plan my 2-week Guatemala itinerary for the coming Dec and Jan and I would like to visit Semuc Champey and Lanquin. However, the LP guide says that this area should be avoided during the months of Nov-Feb as it is too cold to swim. Is this true? Is it worth it going to the area without going in the water??

My friends and I are planning to do a trip in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala, but we are looking for a cheaper way from Antigua back to LAX as air tickets from Guatemalan City are really pricey during that period of time (New Year's). I tried finding bus routes into Mexico and then flying from Guadalajara/Oaxaca but the minimal savings did not justify the additional time and effort.
