Hello,
Im visiting Guatemala from Nov 6 to Nov 21 (15 days)
Here’s what I have planned so far:
Nov 6 to 10: Flight to Guatemala City, and shuttle to Lake Atitlan
Nov 10 to 13: Semuc champey
Nov 13 to 16: Tikal
Nov 16 to 21: Antigua
Questions:
1. My flight lands at 12 midnight on Nov 6, is it a bad idea to go to Lake Atitlan right away? Should I spend one night in Antigua first?
2. How easy is the transportation arrangement? Do I need to arrange it weeks in advance?
3. To go from Lake Atitlan to Semuc…

Hey all,

I am looking to travel through Central America for a few of months, starting around November-December time frame. I'd like to spend a month of that taking a yoga teacher training course, preferably (but not necessarily) near Lake Atitlan. I found Mystical Yoga Farm and am interested in them, I am wondering if anyone has experience with them. Can anyone recommend any other yoga centers in the area? Even anywhere not in Guatemala, I'm open to other suggestions. I am just hoping to…

Bus Travel

Hello,

I've had some trouble finding information on how much it costs to get from one place to another using a shuttle bus. In particular I am looking for prices for the following routes:

Guatemala City to Antigua
Antigua to Lago de Atitlan
Lago de Atitlan to Chicachicastenango
Lago de Atitlan to Semuc Champey
Chicachicastenango to Semuc Champey
Semuc Champey to Tikal

Tikal to Belize City

Thank you for any information :)

Since I think it's boring going back via Antigua, GC to Cobán, I was looking at an alternative route. I found out that it is possible to go via Uspantán. Anybody experience with this route (especially during the rainy season)? I know there are 'tourist'-shuttles going straight to Chichi. But then...? Is it possible to get to Uspantán in one day and the next day to lanqúin and be there on time to book a Semuc tour for the next day without being/getting stressed :p?

Hello, we will be in Lago de Atitlan from mid octobre to mid November of this year.

I understand it's been a particularly dry, wet season, but would love to hear more about what to expect, to plan our packing.

Couple of questions that come to mind, when it's not raining is it very humid?
Is there a risk of rain everyday?
Is it more a passing afternoon shower, or all day rains?
What will the overnight temperature be and the high of the day?
For footwear, is the ground always wet or can I get by…

I have just extended my trip to Guatemala and Mexico by another month!!

I will be in Antigua and was hoping to use the extra 4 weeks to travel by shuttle/ bus up to Cancun from where I fly back to the UK.

My plan is to travel from Antigua to Coban (staying 1 night), Coban to Semuc Champney (2 nights) then on to Tikal (2nights).

I would then like to travel on a shuttle bus straight to Chetumal (through Belize) then travel to Calakmul, Campeche, Merida, Valladolid (Chichen Itza) then on to…

I will be taking the Huehue (perhaps Chiantla) bus to Nebaj via Sacapulas, some say it's a togh ride.
Does anyone know more or less the timing to get from one poin to another?
Some even say it`s a 8 hours ride all the way up.
Would it be wise to stop in Sacapulas for one night and then continue next day?
Any suggestions will be really appreciated.

Hello,
I'm planning a trip to Antigua over Christmas with my husband and two kids (son 17 and daughter 14). I have read about various crimes on the government pages, and it does worry me. Do I need to be worried?
I'd love your feedback and experiences. I remember Guatemala as having some of the nicest people on earth, but I was there a long time ago.
Thanks!

Some good news on what was shaping up to be a grim story. They'd just called off the search after this German woman disappeared hiking near Zunil. Turns out she fell down in a ravine and got trapped there, and is very lucky to have been rescued... pessimism had set in and it was widely assumed she'd fallen victim to foul play.
