We are looking for 3 rooms in a nice homestay with meals in central Antigua - one double and 2 single rooms. Good cooking would be nice! We need it from June 23 to July 14. We are studying Spanish at CSA. I'm not sure how hard it is to find a homestay at this late date...anyone know? and if so, if anyone has any other ideas for places to stay in the central antigua area - We prefer homestay and probably would learn more Spanish that way, but...

Most all the language schools have lists of homestay families, so that's who I'd ask. No need to say you want something in central Antigua. It is a small town, about 12 streets wide by 12 streets long, about one square mile, with Parque Central right in the middle.
Buen viaje!

Best you check your homestay before you committ to a stay there. In some you barely see the host family and sometimes the food not very good. Others are just wonderful so ask your school what ones you can visit to choose before you choose one and then go check them out be alet for signs of fleas or bedbugs. Check bed clothing when viewing the rooms. Ask how many other students staying in home at same time and check the bath room as some very primative. Remember there are no regulations on homestay places and it is a business for family to make money.

Try Marta Barrutia at 836-5162--old number --think there is a digit missing to place in front. She runns a guest house for students and insists you speak Spanish at the guest house.
Address is 2a Av sur #42 interior 3 A--address is outside the alleyway which may have the door closed. If so walk in thru normal size door and Marta is at the interior end of the alleyway. If she is full, the place just before her place on the left also takes in students--mostly German speakers however.
No matter where you stay expect to live out of your bag--most common complaint of students is that no place seems to have any arrangement for students to hang up clothes. And the only electrical receptical will be on the wall furthest from where you want it to be, but you can get an extenion cord at the market.
