It's big news plastered all over my home page. I've been very surprised no one posted about it until your post. Shows how LP interest has sunk since those months they were shut down. Before that there would have been half a dozen posters in Guatemala jumping on it immediately. Wish I could be watching it, but have no desire to be in all the ash, which I've already had two experiences with while in Antigua.

I dunno, not to ramp down the drama or anything but it seems pretty minor looking at FB accounts of locals... just a light dusting of ash. There have been some crazy pictures posted to certain groups that ended up being fake (i.e. pics of other eruptions), so a bit of controversy on that front...
Yeah, the two stories I clicked and read were very misleading with both photos and comments. Took some effort to sort through to learn what happened this time. You may have it right, that this eruption really wasn't newsworthy, not even by those Thorn Treers presently in Antigua.

I agree with #1 - any travel forum worthy of the name would be abuzz with an event that knocked out the country's one real airport for 24 hours.
