We arrive in Flores at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday and fly back out at 6:30 p.m. the next day. We have a sunrise tour Sunday with Roxy Ortiz at Tikal (we're staying at Jungle Lodge). I think we have plenty of time at Tikal, and my only question is, do we head straight there on Saturday to maximize time at the park, or do we wait until 3 p.m. to enter the park, saving one day's entrance fee, still getting a few good hours in, then having quite a bit of time the next day to explore. I love pyramids, but even I am thinking a 3 p.m. entry will be plenty if we have quite a few hours available the next day. On the other hand, if we take our time getting there, I don't see anything overly interesting on TripAdvisor to do between Flores and Tikal (keeping in mind we'll have our luggage in tow).
The 3pm entry will give you enough time to explore Tikal over 2 days, even if you take the time to walk every forest trail there. I'd suggest find a hotel on the Flores island, and pay them a tip to guard your luggage for a few hours while you walk around pretty Flores island. There are also boats you can take across the narrow part of Lake Peten to walk around the community on the other side of the lake, and get a different view of Flores.

Someone posted on here a few days ago saying there is no more after 3pm & the next day ticket. Scroll down a bit to see the thread.
Buen viaje!
There is plenty to do wherever you go in Flores or Tikal and why do you need so much luggage?
I just visited Tikal for the 6th time this week - so much to see that how much time there is a personal decision. Had another fantastic tour with Roxy, too - tell her Stacey says hi. :-)
I second mstep's recommendation that you find some place to stash your bags on the island and poke around for a few hours. Flores has some nice restaurants (consider trying the pezcado blanco, a tasty white fish native to the Peten Lakes--a lot of lakefront restaurants over on the west side of the island offer it as a daily special), and you can swim in the lake to cool off.
To get in around/after 3, take the Uaxactun bus (one of the old converted school buses, this is a safe route to get a taste of them) and get off at Tikal, or try to join a group leaving Flores for a sunset tour of Tikal if they'll let you just pay for the ride to the site.
Tikal Roxy says the 3 p.m. ticket is still good for the next day. Guess I'll find out for sure in February. :)
