Looks like I will be in Antigua AM and GUAT PM. Any suggestions for dinner?

Home-style no but different and excellent. And, as usual, this will sound like a strange suggestion.

Rey Sol is a vegetarian restaurant in Zona 1 of Guatemala City, half a block west of 6ta Avenida (the pedestrian mall). I forget the cross street but probably around Calle 12 (there is a POPs ice cream store on the 6th Av corner).

They have some pretty amazing food and I know many non-vegetarians that love the place. Nice, clean and lunches are buffet style with amazing assortments.

No clue if they are doing anything special for Thanksgiving but if you will be in/near Zona 1 they are well worth checking out.

The branch of Rey Sol you're thinking of, Phil, is on 11 Calle between Sixth and Fifth Avenues in Zona 1, on the north side of the street. (They also have at least two other branches in Zona 1.) Larry, what part of Guatemala City will you be in? Zona 1? Zona 10? Somewhere else entirely?

I'm doubtful that you'll find a traditional, full bore, U.S. style Thanksgiving dinner at any restaurant in Guatemala, Larry. However, there certainly are plenty of great places to dine on U.S. Thanksgiving Day, both in Antigua and in the capital.

Hooters by plaza obelisk? I don't know about turkey but they have a lot of flavors of chicken wings

David, Epicure Restaurant here in Antigua has an annual Thnaksgiving Dinner with all the trimmings. Use to be about Q200.

What about Cafe Contesa on the Plaza? All the Expats also hang out there.

But why have Turkey, just have a nice meal...

Thanks, I did check Epicure, and they have a nice turkey burger (fries included). But I wrote and asked about thanksgiving and they do offer a spread. No prices yet. they are kinda pricey (to me).

Yes, Epicure is expensive. But for a Traditional Thanksgiving its hard to beat. It is popular with expats and tourists alike. Both foreign and Guatemalatecos.

If you are going to go "out" for Thanksgiving, where is it not expensive?

Geeez...you think its common for locals to eat all the trappings of a North American tradition?
