We will be in Antigua and have an 8 AM departure out of Guatemala airport so we need to stay the night before near the airport For night of February 20th. Villa Toscana has no rooms. Hoping for clean, quiet, good hot water, and pleasant stay for our last night. Also on a bit of a budget. Any ideas , please??

Staying near the airport is much better for me with a morning flight like that - more sleep and less stress. Sorry that Villa Toscana is full - that's my go-to stop near the airport. I've heard of Guatefriends and Casa Blanca in the same neighborhood but don't know them personally. You could also check out Dos Lunas.

My 20 year old daughter and I loved Dos Lunas. The owners were great. Hank, the Dutch husband, is great fun. He took us outside the neighborhood to buy my daughter a phone, because she was going to be volunteering for two months. We went next door to the phone tienda for some food and drove around their neighborhood looking for the mobile bread man. Great fun seeing Hank in action. He never stops talking. Our first night in Guatemala was at Dos Lunas. The next morning Hank took us to the airport for our flight to Tikal. We asked about staying at Dos Lunas when we came back from Tikal but they were booked. Lorena, the owner and wife, said to call her from Tikal and she would tell us if there was a cancelation and if not , she would find us another hotel at a similar price. When we called from Flores, she said she would pick us up from the airport, for free, and take us to a different hotel. When I offered her money, she politely said that was not necessary, but I gave her the money anyway. The other hotel was in the same neighborhood. Casa del Angel Hostal, http://www.casadelangelguate.com. Both were 300Q for two people. The Dos Lunas breakfast was very good, with all the bread you wanted.

We had a 8Am flight, and left Antigua at 545AM, no issues.

I think you were really lucky, Tim. Leaving at 5:45 from Antigua could mean a 6:30 arrival at GUA or a 7:30 arrival which would be well past the allowable check in time for an 8am flight.

i am really confused, you had an 8am flight, left antigua 15 minutes before check in? listen to stacey, she is right and us that live here also know about the traffic. timbo, you did one time and were very lucky, i wouldn't do it.

I have stayed in Antigua and used the early shuttle to the airport a couple times, no problem.

Oh yes I am aware of rush hour traffic in GC, way better than Toronto, where I do get a hotel near the airport the night before even a late morning flight.
