looked like it on the radar - & heavy duty in the north & possibly light showers in mid-country.

Dean is a fast moving hurricane. Already cleared the peninsula and half way across the gulf. So there is no lingering wind or rain in El Peten. In fact, the weather should be gorgeous the next couple of days, which is the usual after a storm.

Some of us were just wondering what happened at El Mirador, but with the eye passing well to the north, it was probably not much. If I hear anything specific, I will pass it along. The bajos may hold extra water for a while and will generally muddy this time of year anyway. People going should be sure to rent a riding mule.
Intellicast is calling for scattered thunder showers. Wunderground suggests that they will be at night, though Tuesday looks better. I like the latter website, because all I have to do is type in the FRS airport code.

well duh #5 [i never said it wasn't]. i watched the hurricane bands [not eye] go over belize & no. GT so figured it had to get breezy or dump some water [ 10 inches instead of 5] or something... i know how challenging el mirador can be anytime so thot if it got a little push in the waterworks dept. they'd have interesting going. just wondering like #4.
[not sure where General De Brigada, Guatemala is but intellicast was saying thunderstorms when i looked for flores - now it's saying scattered thunderstorms 8/23-31 w/ thundershowers today, i'm sure it updates at least once a day.]
anywho arron/erin [sp?] is doing a water number in the u.s. w/ lots of flooding.

I am guessing that the Santa Elena (FRS) airport was originally named after General de Brigada Anacleto Maza Castellanos, but that the General's name isn't used much any more. However, I could be wrong.
There was a report a few years back about a September trip that involved wading in gum boots for much of it, but the fellow and companions apparently had a great time. I also remember seeing a photo of some fellows on the same trip upending a middle finger while wading and not in gumboots. I personally will select a very dry period for my next trip there.
