Last November we traveled for 2 months by chicken bus in Guatemala. On particularly nerve-wracking and memorable ride included listening to the driver blast the same song over and over again as he drove at break neck speed racing his buddy to Xela.
The song was kind of circus like and started with "Hoy, no mas!" I heard it on the street many times later but dont know what its called or who sings it. Can anyone help me?

If you were still in guatemala, your best source of information would be the guys selling burned cd's on the streets. Specially around zone 1 in guatemala city. But since you're not in guatemala hopefully someone can ask around and get back to you. It could very well have been merengue or bachata . Good luck.

Bachata, that song is on lots and lots of cds. Try Grande Exitos or Exitos Solamente... maybe.

Wait, I think I´m incorrect about that. We have a cd that says Bachata, Salsa & Meringue. I wouldn´t call that song bachata at all. If you really want to know the artist, I can find out.

You're the first person I've heard of who actually wants to know what song was playing during one of these ordeals. Maybe you're making a film about the horrors of chicken bus travel and need it for the soundtrack. Maybe you're just making a horror film. I usually need a week to get some of those songs out of my head. I usually pray for somebody to catch up to Men In Black technology so I could just stare into some gadget and have the memory erased.

Hey Geno... the reason why you saw the word bachata on lots of cd's is because bachata is not the name of a song but rather a music style. I am not going to call it a rithm because its based on the traditional bolero which is incorrectly referred to as rumba on dance competitions. Bachata characterizes itself for being fast tempo romantic/passionate songs with the acompaniment of guitars and bongoes. Normally guatemalans prefer mexican music but bachata which was born in the dominican republic just like the merengue has picked up a lot lately and they're playing it all over the place specially on board buses and inside stores.

Yes I am crazy and still want to know. Its funny, but now that I am home to my serene life I kind of miss the chicken bus... thanks for all the input and I guess I will keep on searching unless anyone else has more bright ideas...
