I did the Inca Trail in 1996. Seeing the sun rise over Machu Picchu from the sun gate was one of the best things I've ever experienced...the perfect conclusion to the 5 day hike.
You will love it :-)

I've finally heard back from the Mikaso Hotel in San Pedro and my booking is confirmed.

What a relief, I'm really looking forward to staying there.

Good! I especially enjoyed eating lunch with the housekeepers; it seemed they were the only people in addition to me using the kitchen.

I will certainly be making use of the kitchen. A bonus if the housekeepers are there to chat to (or attempt to with my v v limited Spanish!)

You know that's a killer hike to nearly 10,000' in elevation, right?

Actually, it's quite easy as far as mountains go. My 10 year old daughter and I made it to the top in two hours ten minutes:

It is a highly recommended hike.
