New Year is always busy in popular destinations so knowing I would be around Lake Atitlan over new year I thought it best to pre-book my accommodation for the 6 nights I am there.

I did and was very happy with my choice and the price. I emailed them a few days ago just to check my reservation and they replied to say the room they'd booked me in was more than double the price I'd booked it at :-(

I have messaged them twice since to say I want the original room I booked at the price quoted on their invoice, but have had no reply!

I'm only concerned because it is a busy time of year and I do not want to arrive there, have no where to stay and no other options, because everywhere is fully booked!

I imagine moving on somewhere else will not be easy or simple. I suspect almost impossible if it's late in the day....
I don't like Christmas and New Year at the best of times, but that scenario couldn't be worse!

Any help would be gratefully received.

Bummer! What was the name of the place? I think if they're treating you that badly the name should be out there. Also, itwould give us a better idea of the sort of place you're looking for if you need a replacement.

It may simply be a misunderstanding and they have misread my email...or me theirs
However, I still haven't received a reply to my emails. So I'm rather concerned I will be left high and dry!
I would still like to stay there as it is recommended by LP forum posters and I was looking forward to it, but unsure what to do next?

Thanks all.

Darn - hope you hear back soon and that it was all a misunderstanding. It seems like every time I've stayed there in the last 3 or 4 years there's been someone new managing. You could try calling - the managers and desk people have always been English speaking in my experience. If you don't hear back, I'd see if Sak'cari has room.

Thanks hopefulist. I'll give them a few more days then email again.

If I get no response I'll look elsewhere for accommodation. Thanks for the suggestion.

It's a shame though as I was looking forward to staying there.

Sak'cari has some advantages - it's 'greener' and has a nice garden area by the lake with kayaks for guest use. The main advantage of Mikaso for me has been the nice share kitchen but I've enjoyed both and many prefer Sak'cari.

It's hard to glean from their website but do they not have any kitchen facilities? It does look nice there and maybe more peaceful than Mikaso, which suits me.

I checked availability and it seems they only have rooms for 2 people, so I have emailed them.

Thanks for your help.
