Three weeks ago, my daughter and I went to Totonicapan, on our way from Xela to San Pedro, via chicken buses, to see the market on Tuesday. I think the market is also on Saturdays. We saw no other gringos there. We stayed at Hospedaje San Miguel, one block from the main square. 8 AV. 7-49. 90 Q per person. There are cheaper hotels. They had real hot water heaters, not the heaters on the shower head. We ate at a fantastic restaurant/panderia called Francipan. New, clean, excellent service, the help had cute uniforms, free Wi-Fi and most important the food was good. Some of the best beef I have had outside the USA.

I liked Montericco too, El Delfin is great cheap relaxing not a good place to practice Spanish. I loved Peurto San Jose the waves are mellow for swimming, quads on the beach, Letty at Delicia2 has a decent hotel no hot water reasonable, food is good. Josecito has great huevos rancheros and the best fish lunch was at Comedor Victoria. Great place to practice Spanish! I was the only person that spoke English so the best for me it is too easy to slip back to English LOL. There are some nicer places up the beach for more Q,s Hotel Mayan, Nautilis, Hotel Chalvita etc
