Oh, and of course if you're into the Pacific coast, Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa has a ton of interesting archaeology and a water park that's faded into an inelegant senescence.

My favorite place? The whole area of Lake Atitlan!!! Love it. But I also find Antigua quite charming especially if you appreciate architecture and artisan goods.

They did the last time I was there, associated with one of the older, hotels on the outskirts of town. Although that was a while back so I couldn't tell you the name of the hotel at this point.

interesting. I know the Santiaguito has a big pool, but nothing approaching a water park. and it's not as if there are thousands of hotels in Santa Lucía...

Yeah, it wasn't the Santiaguito (unless I'm totally senile). This place had a big corkscrew waterslide...and maybe some real mermaids?
