I'm arriving in Guatemala City on a 3:30 pm flight in mid October, and I'd like to get to Puerto Barrios (so I can continue on to Honduras) that same evening. I understand there is a late bus from the Litegua terminal in Zona 1, leaving at 19:00. So I'm guessing this would get me into Puerto Barrios around midnight. Will there be a problem finding a cheap hotel at that hour? Any suggestions? Sure appeciate any help!

You could probably make the 5 PM directo bus. This would probably bring you in around 10. You might want to call whichever place you want to stay and tell them you are coming.

No, there won't be any problem. getting there around midnight just take a taxi right in front of the Barrios Litegua station to La Caribena hotel/restaurant (close enough to walk in the daytime). Piece of cake. PM for more info if you like

Well...I'm glad Pedro is giving you the name of a place he is familiar with. For additional hotel information on Puerto Barrios go to www.guatemalaenvivo.com then click on Izabal. www.hotelvalletropical.com seems like a good place to stay too,but its in the $30-50 price range.Good luck.

Valle Tropical, something of a more corporate-type hotel, is a little further down the road, but is a good choice, too, though a lot more expensive. Caribena is around half that price, less if you stay longer. The thing is I've never arrived that late to Valle tropical, whereas I'm SURE you're all set arriving late to Caribena as I've done it many times; I just prefer the down home aspect of it.
