Hello,

We will be in Lago de Atitlan for a month starting next week. Can anyone help us with names and locations of different resources for our son and for our family.

Not sure if these exist but, we are looking for:

Play groups for children
Parks to play in, or school yards
Libraries to borrow books or toys

Any other fun activities or ideas you would like to mention would be appreciated,

Regards

Gabriel

Stay in Pana and bring a stroller so you can wheel your child around to different sites in the town. Play groups aren't something that they are into yet in Guatemala and you might want to be careful as to what you expose your child too.. Not everyone has the shots that you might have gotten for your child. Germs are everywhere so bring wipes to keep cleaning your child's hands. You don't want a sever case of runs to upset your vacation plans. Make sure you have all your flu shots too. Guat is different and can be a lot of fun but you can be exposed to some rally nasty stuff. I thought I was immune t o everything by now after many years but one trip to Guat ended up in er due to sever stomach problems. If you are still nursing so much the better. Photos on wolf calls.com

Where will you be staying on the lake? What's on offer will differ between towns and villages. Do you speak Spanish well? If not, you might want to consider attending a Spanish school. Many of the teachers in the school I attend a few times/year have young children and friends of mine with young kids have enjoyed play dates and family gatherings over the years. That's esp the case if you live with a local family who has kids - a good friend with 2 young boys (6 and 8, I think) lived during the summer with a family with a similar-aged boy and they'll be life long friends. Hope you find what you're looking for!

Thanks for reponse. We'll be staying in San Juan, but we're ready to move around to find interesting things to do. Let me know if you have any more advice.

How's your Spanish? Have you asked the people you're renting from for advice? Most of the locals will be native Tz'utujil speakers but some will be bilingual or have enough Spanish to get by. You could take a tuktuk to San Pedro and hang out in the park by the Catholic Church - usually families with kids here. Good luck!
