Looking for a single room with bathroom in a mid-range hotel not too far from the lake. Suggestions welcome.

Not sure what you mean by either mid-range or not too far from the lake. Here's my go to place in Pana:

What is Mid Range? How far from the Lake?

Have you looked at AirBnB, many hotels advertise their rooms on the site, as well as private homeowners with a room/apt to rent.

Two places I like a lot are Hotel Dos Mundos (nice, right on Santander, rooms arranged around a pool: http://www.hoteldosmundos.com) and Hotel Utz-Jay (nice garden, a bit smaller and more rustic, slightly cheaper:http://hotelutzjay.com).

Hotel Primavera is also really nice, though it's closer to the main road: http://www.primaveraatitlan.com

Gracias to all. The guidebook is a good start, but it's useful to get opinions from enthusiastic and experienced travelers.

If you tell us what mid-range means to you (how much are you willing to pay per night?) we can give more suggestions.

Another vote for Dos Mundos. This is my favorite place to stay as rooms all one story so lessens the earthquake worries as often tremors at the lake area. Really easy to just run out the door to the lovely gardens the rooms are set in. . Haver had to do that more than once over the years.

Agree with Stacey Marios Rooms, 5 minute walk to the lake. $20-$25 range and breakfast included. Close to everything.
