We have arranged for a tour guide for the Thursday market in Chichicastinango. After the market we would like to go somewhere for a lunch, someplace offering vegetarian options, either in Chichicastinango, or thereabouts. We would also like to do some other sightseeing before returning to our hotel in Antigua. Are there any other villages that we should visit? Are there interesting archaeological sites? Any advice would be appreciated.

Eating at a market is half the fun.

I generally eat in the market so don't have other lunch recommendations. You could plan a stop at the Iximché Maya site on the way back to Antigua. It's not a huge, flashy site but it's lovely and historically important. Happy trails!

Despite all the hype, Chichi is a very small town and restaurant options are very limited. The last time I was there, there was a Pollo Campero that was take-out only. It reminded me of a food truck. There is a hotel right in the middle of ChiChi that has a full service restaurant. I was only there for breakfast, but they might have some good lunch options for you. They have parrots in the courtyard, with little umbrellas about their pirches.

There are more restaurant options available along the highway about halfway between Antigua and Chichi, around Tecpan or so. I have heard really good firsthand reports about a place called Katok, although I have not been there personally.

Are you not visiting Lago Atitlan area? The market in Antigua has good food too....

There are a couple of nice places to eat just off the highway you take to and from Chici. Also the market itself has many places to grab a bite and then there is the aforementioned hotel beside the market place that is my favorite place to eat there. Photos on wolf calls.com. The hotel also has a nice gift shop with things at reasonable prices. The wait staff wears traditional clothing.
