My husband and I plan to fly from Guatemala to Roatan next spring with our then 18 month old daughter. We're thinking of either departing from Guatemala City or Flores. I've been trying to figure out who flies these routes and approximate costs. So far I see that TACA has flights that seem kind of pricey and long, given the relatively small distance. Am I missing any other airlines or a cheaper / quicker way to get from Guat to Roatan? With a little one, we're not too keen on spending lots of time on overland transport. Thanks in advance.

Hi there, as far as I know there are no direct flights from GC or Flores to Roatan. But you should be able to get there by air which is still expensive via Tegucigalpa or San Pedro Sula. Otherwise www.hedmanalas.com by bus would be your best alternative. Good luck.
You could break up the trip between Guatemala City (or Antigua) and San Pedro Sula with a night or 2 in Copán Ruinas, then fly from San Pedro Sula. Hedman Alas buses are really comfortable, though I'd choose to fly if you can afford it.

Cheaper/quicker are two words that logically don't go together. The Copan option is a good one if it's on your list. Should be on everyone's.
I agree with hopefulist.
Take a shuttle from Guatemala City,(or Antigua) to Copan Ruinas and spend a night or two. The ruins are close to town and the town is an interesting, safe place to stay with plenty of hotel options.
You can then take either a shuttle or Hedman Alas to San Pedro Sula and fly to Roatan. Don't buy your flight tickets online, you will get a better price at the airport. My wife and I took Hedman Alas to SPS because the shuttle schedule was too restrictive. Do you have any ideas on where you will stay on Roatan?
Firefly

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We were actually in Copan Ruinas a couple of years ago and loved it. Due to time restraints on this trip, we weren't going to take the time to stop there. Depending upon what we find flight-wise as the date gets closer, we may actually go with the options suggested above. As far as accommodation on Roatan, we will likely stay at Posada Arco Iris. We stayed there on a previous visit to Roatan and thought it was great. With a little one in tow, the private kitchen, porch and bathroom will be even more important than in the past!

Hi there,
You can fly to Roatan via El Salvador from Guatemala City. My dad does it all the time, I don't know exactly how much it is but it is much more expensive than you would think ( I think $400 US round trip). I think that Taca does a flight every Thursday and/or Sunday that goes from Guate, to El Salvador and then DIRECTLY to Roatan. it is important that if you do fly, that you check it is not stopping from El Salvador to Roatan, as there can be up to 2 stops (In San Pedro Sula and in La Ceiba) and it will take you a 12 hour day just to fly to Roatan.
Good luck
