Hey everyone. Heading to Mexico and Guatemala on Saturday. Wanted to check what's the rough cost of a flight from Guatemala (most likely flying out from Flores) to Mexico City? And should I book while I'm home in Australia or once I get there? At the moment I can find flights for around $AU380 - but then others are $AU700!!

Becaus of crazy prices Guate to Mex, most travelers cross the border into Mexico by bus. Mexico has a few low cost carriers internally, from Tapachula for example.

You probably already have checked out their pages but as far as I know, the only airlines that fly from guatemala city to mexico may be www.mexicana.com www.aeromexico.com, www.taca.com and now www.interjet.com.gt. Also, how about trying www.despegar.com. That's a page for flights in Latin America. I don't think there are any flights from Flores to Mexico City. You may find some to Cancun and of course GC but that's just about it. I know some guatemalans fly out of Tapachula, Chiapas, across the border, which is supposed to be cheaper than flying from Guatemala city.You might be able to get a better deal buying your ticket directly from a mexican airline on-line rather than from a travel agency in guatemala because of all the taxes. If you are coming from Flores, a good bet would be to cross overland to Palenque..a place you don't want to miss anyway. From Palenque it is only about 1 1/2 hrs. by bus to Villahermosa where you could find a variety of flights to Mexico City. Saves backtracking to Cancun and Tapachula isn't a good option from Flores.

Interjet has just begun flights to Toluca Mexico (outside MExico City) and Cancun from Guatemala City. Right now they are offering 2 for 1 fares and may have other specials online.......The flights in Latin America are not very good value per mile traveled...more expensive than travel in the USA or in Europe (price/distance ratio).
