How safe is the area?

I've always felt safe there, even walking home from restaurants or activities in the evening. There have been a few scary incidents over the years but the ones I've read about have involved late night/drinking/partying situations that I avoid. I head back there every year, sometimes with groups and kids in tow. Others may pipe in with their opinions. Happy trails!
