I am planning to go to Xela in March for a week and a half. I would like to do an immersion Spanish class while there. I am unsure which school to choose. They all seem great. Any recommendations?

Not necessarily. What do you recommend?

My favorite is on Lake Atitlán: http://cooperativeschoolsanpedro.edu.gt/

Try a search on this forum for Spanish schools - popular topic. ¡Buena suerte!

Xela will be better for immersion than San Pedro. Plenty of schools to choose from, I'll try and remember which one I went to in 2007!

I can recommend Spanish School Sol Latino. In 2012 I came to Xela to study at this school and to volunteer for 6 months. The school offers private classes of 20 or 25 hours per week. The teachers have many years of experience with teaching students Spanish and will not only teach you Spanish but will also learn you more about life in Guatemala.

They also have daily activities for the students, such as visits to villages, hikes, dinners and soccer games.

During my first weeks I stayed at a host family which was really good to practice my Spanish and to get to know the culture better. After a few weeks I moved to Casa Latina, the guesthouse of the school located above the school. What I especially liked most about their guesthouse was the amazing view and the hot showers.

I think Sol Latino would be a good option to do an immersion program because they don't only offer Spanish classes, but also accommodation, daily activities, salsa classes and can help you find a project to volunteer. And they all do it very organized.
