We are making our first trip to Guatemala Feb.2 - 23 and it just occurred to me that we will be there during Lent and Carnaval. We usually don't make reservations ahead of time but do we need to be planning ahead because of the holidays? I didn't have much luck finding an 08 holiday calendar online. Can anyone give us some advice about places to be (or not) during Feb. holidays. We are planning on the usual destinations--Antigua,Atitlan,Tikal,etc. but are pretty loose about playing it as it unfolds when we travel. Thanks all!

You should be fine. It's Easter week that is the biggie. Already too late for that. Only exception is if you are dead set on staying in a certain hotel. If you don't mind having to walk down the street to your second choice..no problem.
