thai food (kinda) in guide books on 4th calle just west of 15 ave.
the chicken basil eggplant was to die for i was making yummy noises have a food o.
finally someone who doesn´t overdo the onions (very sparlngly & throughly cooked!)
the tom ka (ga) also good however too sweet for my taste so added a few drops of fresh lime & a spoon of the red chili sauce & very good. don´t be shy if no one is there, it´s a little hole in the wall you can easily miss. i sat in the courtyard & had to endure some teenybopper boom box but the food was worth it. (it´s inside a hostal).

also down on 4th calle a block east of this restaurant on the other side of the street is a bakery.
the supermarket i found was on about 7th calle & 13 ave.

( we´ve mentioned & noticed all the good food restaurant s are foreign right?
(in pana la chinious/malaysian, the lebanese guy w- the grill on the terrace 1st floor of la terrace,...etc...)

There's been some talk about restaurants in Xela, Antigua, Flores and San Pedro lately and, as CAgal has pointed out, lots of recommendations for foreign owned restaurants. I find myself resisting a lot of locally owned restaurants because I can't seem to find myself not being really disappointed. Most foreign owned places employ local cooks anyway. Any awesome recommendations out there?

Hey CAgalEuroSpring,

I noticed you've put quite a few recommendations/journals on the board about your trip recently. Have you considered blogging your journey on a blogging site such as Blogger or Travelpod (I prefer Travelpod myself!). It's a great way to keep a record for yourself - to refer to in the future, as well as to share with others! And you can refer to it in the future (whereas this posting board will be more difficult to access your postings later in the future). Plus you can upload photos to the blogging websites to share. Travelpod also links with Facebook (if you use Facebook...).

Just a thought!

Cheers,
Kay

part 3 had the chef lydia make me something w- pollo & cashews & eggplant - yum.

lydia speaks pretty good english her husband juan pablo speaks menu english only.
the owner of the restaurant/hotel (who was my waitress yesterday) speaks english too (not sure about her husband)-haven´t met him yet.

lydia the cook from what i gather took thai cooking lessons from a thai chef living in the states at the time.
she´s so good i´ve eaten there 3 days in a row & tomorrow will probably be a forth (green curry).
lydia has a house in antigua but not enough $ to buy/rent a restaurant there so until she finds investors she will be cooking in xela - xelas gain.
