Hi everyone,
I'm going to Guatemala for 8 days in January and I'd love to see Tikal. I don't have a lot of money to spend, so I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a place/agency that can take me (including flight) for under $200?
Thanks!

No flights at that price..presume you mean R/T. But take a night bus...a lot cheaper and it even saves you a hotel. Oh..it's safe.

For bus and hotel this one well, the food is cheap, I am going to check prices of bus to send you with accuracy
As suggested above, the cheapest way is an overnight bus to Flores from Guate. I would argue for a night there, because two bus nights in a row would be pure crap, even for me. A couple of the overnight buses are cheaper, but all have in common not stopping for passengers, except at major stops, such as Poptun, if at all. If you can afford deluxe, Linea Dorada and Autobuses del Norte are to go with. You could still come in under $200.
Once you arrive at the Santa Elena bus station, there are chicken buses for 20Q that take you to Tikal at 6:00 AM, 6:30, 7:00, 8:30, 10:00, 11:30, and 12:30 PM. Depending on when you arrive, the chicken buses could get you there not long after a 50-60Q shuttle you had to seek out and wait for.
One of the cheapest stays at Tikal in a $7 hammock with net at Jaguar Inn. Arguably the best and certainly the cheapest food is at the two comedors near the entrance.
Have a great trip!

As Bob said, it will cost a little more than $200 roundtrip if you fly from Guat City to Santa Elena airport. You need to weigh time, comfort, cost. The luxury buses (still relatively cheap) aren't that bad and quite comfy. Personally, I can't sleep worth a damn in buses anyways.
Two Benadryl (diphenhydramine) tablets seem to work for me on both overnight buses buses and transatlantic flights. It is not nearly as good as being at home in bed, but far better than complete sleeplessness. On buses, being in the back half makes any chatting or music played by the driver and his assistant after the TV goes off much harder to notice. Bring ear plugs as well.
